Born: 1832, representing the ancient family of Calder, and thought to have descended from Sir John, armour-bearer to King James I., Comptroller of the Royal household, Governor of Dumbarton Castle, and Sheriff of Dumbarton. Sir John, who was knighted at the baptism of the twin Princes, 1430, obtained the lands of Glorat in dowry with his wife, daughter of the laird of Galbraith. The above Sir Charles succeeded his brother, Sir Samuel Home, eighth baronet, 1861, and acted for some time as captain in Stirlingshire militia.
