February 25, 2002 - Jamaica Stirlings - New Information
|
|
Recently CSO received a nice email from Stirling descendant Iain Mcnab regarding his Stirling ties to the isle of Jamaica. Iain writes - "My great-grandmother was Helen Stirling, whose family include several illustrious characters. One, called "Bertie Stirling", was an Orthopaedic surgeon in Edinburgh. Another one, maybe Robert Inglis Stirling was his full name, apparently made a fortune distilling rum in Jamacia. Then at a certain point, sometime before 1900, he was converted, burned down his distilleries and came back to Scotland with a lot of money - which he then lost in bank failures during the depression." If you'd like to contact Iain, his email address is iain.macnab@eu-mart.net
