Mount Sterling Panoramic Map This map is a panoramic view of the city of Mount Sterling, Illinois originally produced by the Chicago Lithographing Co. in 1869. The map is 23" x 17 1/2" in size, and is printed on heavyweight satin paper.
Original panoramic maps were also known as perspective maps, aero views, and bird's-eye views. The artists portrayed the cities as if seen from an imaginary viewpoint high in the air. These views often depict important landmarks, streets, buildings and major landscape features with amazing accuracy, and can be quite useful for genealogy research. Original maps existing today were often folded or separated by institutions for ease of storage. The original maps did not have any folds, separations or vertical lines in them. These imperfections, as well as other problems on the old originals such as fading, stains, tears, library stamps and other blemishes were unintended by the artist/lithographer.
