Abstract of Charter by the Earl of Lennox to William Stirling, son of Sir John Stirling of Craigbernard, of the lands of Glorat. Dated 10 October 1508

Mathew, Earl of Levenax, &c., to all and sundry, greeting: Has confirmed to his beloved servitor, William Stirling, son of his beloved cousin John Stirling of Craigbernard, knight, all and sundry the lands of Glorat, which the said John Stirling at the lands of Gonze in Kylsith before divers witnesses resigned in the hands of the earl: To be held by William and the heirs male of his body lawfully procreated or to be procreated, whom failing, by Walter his brother german, and his heirs male in the like manner; which failing by the said John Stirling of Craigbernard, his heirs and assigns whomsoever, of the granter and his heirs and successors in fee, rendering yearly three suits of court at the e3arl's three head courts held at Balloch yearly, likewise ward, relief, and marriage, when they shall happen; likewise paying yearly to the chaplain officiating in the chapel of Cragbernard and the parish of Campsy, an annual rent of 6 marks at Pentecost and S. Martin in winter from the said lands; reserving likewise the free tenement of said lands for the life to the said John Stirling, and a reasonable terce therfrom to his wife. The granter appends his seal Inchennon 10 October 1508, before David Hamiltoun, bishop of Argyle, John Sympil, lord of Fulwood, Patric Danzelstoune, son of the lord of Cowgrane, Sir James Knox, preist, Mathew Stewart, John Lairgis, and others.
